Transformational Change
...
Cheeky Monkey Wisdom
People do not resist change, they resist badly managed change.

- For businesses to invest there must be a clear path charting the return on that investment
- Businesses invest in technology to enable the delivery of a business benefit
- Technology does not work without people
- The main ingredient of successful change is common sense
- People like common sense but aren’t always capable of delivering it
Delivering change successfully is now expected (not sure why as it is still rarely achieved but it seems to be old hat as a talking point).
Delivering Business Transformation is value add.
An initiative that aligns the people, process and technology of a company more closely with its business strategy and vision to support and help innovate.
- Changing shape. Review and re-appraisal of what the business should do.
- Changing form. Improving the way the business works (structure, process, technology, skills, etc.)
- Changing appearance. Improving the service to customers.
Technology is rarely the key to unlocking economic value. Companies create real wealth when they combine technology with a new way of doing business. To achieve sustainable transformation people must be at the heart of the change.
What we have learnt...
Transformation takes time
- The project is just the enabler to the goal
- There is a lag between design and implementation (things do not stop changing)
- People can get caught in over initiative syndrome (there is no end to the transformation)
- You need to keep it real
- People need to have fun
Our simple route through transition...
Audits
- An explanation of what we are doing and why
- Buy into the process of change
- Joint agreement to the action plan
- Sponsorship and commitment to deliver
Workshops
- Joint learning experience
- Next stage in creating the enthusiasm to adopt
- Bring the change to the world of the user
- Gentle but effective knowledge transfer
- Identification of issues in a safe environment
- Start of real behavioural change
- Getting people to believe
Of course there are hard bits...
- Resistance
- Fear
- Priorities
- Capability issues
- Discovering compromises
- Negativity
- Behaviour
Common themes (regardless of project)...
- Clarity on what change is required and why
- Identification of business fit
- Drivers and benefits delivery
- Stakeholder management and buy in
- Implementation management plans (one hit or phased)
- Legacy issues
- Baggage
- Priority conflicts
